Founded in 1990, NLGJA is an organization of journalists, media professionals, educators and students working from within the news industry to foster fair and accurate coverage of LGBT issues. NLGJA opposes all forms of workplace bias and provides professional development to its members.

Chicago is well-known for producing both great journalists and stories the grab national attention. Founded in 1991, the Chicago Chapter has grown from four members to become one of NLGJA’s largest and most visible chapters. With members throughout Illinois, Wisconsin and parts of Indiana, the Chicago Chapter focuses on keeping members connected, providing fun social events and mentoring student journalists.
